Activision will develop the next Halo game

Xbox has cut staff from Halo Studios and pivoted it to 'supporting the Halo community,' while Activision will develop a new team to create the next Halo title.

Alongside the announcement of fresh Xbox layoffs, the gaming giant also announced structural changes, especially regarding the Halo series. Staff from Halo Studios were cut, the rest of the studio is being pivoted to support, and Activision will develop the next Halo game.

Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty shared the detail of the changes in development for the Halo series in the Xbox Wire post disclosing layoffs. Here’s what Booty had to say on the matter:

Halo Studios, previously 343 Industries, was rebranded in October 2024 as Xbox established as a more franchise-forward brand to work on the series. It’s last major release was Halo: Campaign Evolved, which was a remake of the original Halo’s campaign. Head of Guides Sam Chandler reviewed it, scoring it 7 out of 10 and calling it “surface-level impressive”:
