I do have to hand it to the Linux Mint team - they do a lot of good work overall and now they're expanding the XApp project.

For those not up to speed - the XApp Project is about making applications for regular users that work across different desktop environments and distributions. While some desktop environments make their own dedicated apps that don't work well or look right on other desktops, the XApp Project is trying to change that.

Announced in the September 2026 blog post, the Linux Mint team noted the brand new website for the XApp Project and it does look quite nice. Lays it all out simply and makes the idea easy to understand by giving an overview of all the different applications maintained by them.

With this news they've also introduced multiple new applications including a calendar app called Clockenstein:

Xepub which is a new EPUB reader:

And, on top of that, the document sorting tool Thingy went through a redesign:

Check out their funding page again - it seems things have been relatively stable across the last few months. With July seeing $15,693 donated and August saw $14,807.
