Three shades of see-through, with a nineties twist What the Prism Collection costs Pre-orders open November 10

Sony has revealed the Prism Collection, a range of transparent DualSense controllers and PS5 console plates in three colours. It launches on February 4, 2027, with pre-orders opening on November 10.

The line was unveiled on the PlayStation Blog by Isabelle Tomatis, vice president of global marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is another cosmetic refresh for PS5 hardware, but this one has a hook: the shells are clear, so the internals become part of the look.

Three shades of see-through, with a nineties twist

The collection comes in Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray, each with a glossy finish. Sony says the idea grew out of its design teams wanting to give the PS5 a transparent look and let players see the craftsmanship inside the controller and console.

Leo Cardoso, from Sony’s Color, Material, and Finish design team, pitched it as something fans had been asking for. “We know how much our fans have been looking forward to the return of transparent controllers,” he said. “We wanted to bring back the iconic see-through trend of the late ’90s in a fresh, modern way that complements the PS5’s industrial design.”

His teammate Satoshi Aoyagi walked through the details that separate the three versions:

  • The clear high-gloss finish wraps around the back of the controller, putting the DualSense hardware on show.
  • A metallic finish on the middle panel ties the transparent and solid surfaces together.
  • Flare Orange picks up a rosy tint wherever layers of the clear plastic overlap.
  • Emerald Green is a deep hunter green, while Graphite Gray goes for a cool, stormy grey.

What the Prism Collection costs

The console plates will be harder to track down. Sony is selling them exclusively through its own store in regions where it sells direct, which currently means the US, UK, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal and Italy, while other regions will get limited quantities through select retailers.

Pre-orders open November 10

Pre-orders go live on November 10 at 10am local time through PlayStation’s store and participating retailers. In the US, that works out to 7am PT / 10am ET, and Sony warns that exact launch dates and stock may vary by country.

As Final Weapon noted, the February 4 launch lands less than two weeks before God of War Laufey arrives on February 16. Whether a see-through orange pad suits Faye’s trip through the afterlife is a question for February.
