Dead by Daylight developer Behavior Interactive has responded to community backlash after gifting a popular Twitch streamer free DLC during a recent livestream.
TheBurntPeanut is an American gaming streamer who has become one of the biggest personalities on Twitch, known for his energetic commentary and distinctive animated peanut avatar.
The streamer was playing the multiplayer survival horror video game Dead by Daylight on stream when he was gifted free access to all of the game’s DLC characters and perks, prompting backlash from the community.
“We can take the heat!”
TheBurntPeanut joked that he was on the receiving end of “streamer privileges” after realizing he had been granted access. The game’s official Twitch account then responded by commenting, “WE CAN TAKE THE HEAT! THEY ARE YOURS TO KEEP,” as revealed in screenshots shared to Reddit.
Some fans of the game responded negatively to the incident, prompting a response from DbD Pulse, the game’s community page, on X. The post revealed that the decision to give TheBurntPeanut access was made without appropriate approvals.
“When concerns about this decision became apparent during the stream, we should have responded by looking into these concerns, not dismissing them,” the post reads. “Unfortunately, we’ve now seen the fallout of this decision unfolding in many conversations across the DbD community.”
The post claimed that the Dead by Daylight team were upset at the “inflammatory language” being used towards members of the community, and branded the threats being made toward employees as “unacceptable”.
