Why FromSoftware is holding The Duskbloods back A rocky network test, but no shortage of interest When Switch 2 owners can expect itFromSoftware has pushed The Duskbloods, its multiplayer action game for Nintendo Switch 2, out of 2026 and into 2027. The studio confirmed the delay on October 29 but did not name a new release date.
Directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, The Duskbloods was revealed as a Switch 2 exclusive in April 2025 with a 2026 window and no exact date. It is also the first console exclusive from the Elden Ring studio since Déraciné in 2018, which made the long silence after the summer feel louder.
Why FromSoftware is holding The Duskbloods back
The news arrived in a statement on the game’s official X account, which said development “is at the final adjustment stage” and that the team had chosen to move the launch window to 2027. FromSoftware also apologised to players who had been waiting and thanked them for their patience.
The studio tied the decision directly to its closed network test. “During the network test, we saw active interest in the core concepts of the game, including combat, strategic depth, and player expression,” the statement said.

FromSoftware, statement on The Duskbloods delay
To build on those areas, FromSoftware said it wants “time for final adjustments to game rules and balancing.” In a game where several players scrap over a single win, the rules are the whole show, so it is not the kind of thing you quietly fix in a day-one patch.
A rocky network test, but no shortage of interest
That test ran from August 21 to 23, according to the schedule FromSoftware shared in July, and it got off to a bad start. The opening session was closed early after many players hit a “Failed to log in” server error, with the studio apologising and promising to keep working on its servers.
Demand was clearly not the issue. As VGC reported in August, producer Yasuhiro Kitao said during a Famitsu livestream that more people applied for the test than for Elden Ring Nightreign’s, despite the game being locked to one console. Later sessions ran more smoothly, and Nintendo Life said it had a good time once it could actually get in.
What FromSoftware has shown so far
- PvPvE matches for up to eight players
- More than a dozen Bloodsworn to pick from, vampire-like characters with their own abilities and weapons, firearms included
- Victory Points earned through fighting or smarter play, with a match ending when only one player is left
- Assigned roles such as Destined Rivals, which sends you after a specific opponent
- A look drawn from Gothic and Victorian styles
When Switch 2 owners can expect it
FromSoftware has not said where in 2027 The Duskbloods will land, and no further network test has been announced. With the game now at what the studio calls its final adjustment stage, the next big moment should be a firm date.
Until then, Switch 2 owners waiting for Miyazaki’s vampires will have to keep the blood on ice a little longer.
