The organizing team behind the Tokyo Game Show has announced that Monday’s ‘extended day’, which made it the longest event in the showcase’s quarter-century history, will be canceled due to an incoming typhoon. The event, which has been live since Thursday, is the largest in the show’s history, and it has proven to be incredibly busy.
But owing to the oncoming typhoon, the team has taken the attendees’ health and safety into consideration and made the decision to cancel the entire event, wiping the closing day off the schedule.
Tokyo Game Show 2026 Being Shortened
In a statement emailed to members of the media, the team hosting the Tokyo Game Show wrote:
Due to the approaching typhoon, strong winds and heavy rain are expected from the afternoon of September 21. There is also a possibility that public transportation services may be affected, making it difficult for visitors and other attendees to return home safely.
Taking the safety of all attendees, exhibitors, staff, and other parties involved as our highest priority, we have decided to cancel the event for the entire day on September 21.
We sincerely apologize for this last-minute notice and for the significant inconvenience this may cause.
Monday was supposed to be the closing day of the largest Tokyo Game Show in history, but it has now been scrubbed from the calendar, which means that tomorrow, Sunday 20th, will be the final day of this year’s event.
The team did stress that, if the inclement weather arrives sooner than expected, they’ll need to potentially modify or cancel Sunday’s schedule also.
Tickets purchased for Monday’s event will be refunded, the team confirmed.
